Workshop: Preparing teachers as mentors for pre-service teacher education and beginning teachers.
(LHC staff only, internal workshop)
Outline of the workshop
This free professional development workshop is designed for all teaching staff of Lourdes Hill College as a way to find out the important role they play in teacher education and how they can best be prepared for the role of mentoring, supervising and coaching with pre-service teachers and/or beginning teachers.
The workshop will firstly provide insights into teacher education and provide a behind the scenes look at how QUT (as an example) works with the profession and the various accreditation processes that govern teacher education providers. A variety of mentoring and supervisory models will then be shared to provide teachers with an overview of the many ways they can best utilise the various developmental stages of pre-service teacher education. A final session will look at the important work of mentoring beginning teachers and how teachers can further their skills in coaching and support.
Presenters: Associate Professor Denise Beutel & Dr Elizabeth Curtis
