An ongoing focus at Lourdes Hill College is how we ensure we are preparing our students for their post-school future in their study and careers.
Last year at our CiTEL Community Lecture we heard from QUT Professor Michael Milford who presented on the topic “Rise of the Machines: Robots, Autonomous Vehicles and AI” and challenged our young women to consider careers in Information Technologies. In another recent blog, LinkedIn has released their summary of the top emerging jobs which listed roles utilising knowledge of technologies such as artificial Intelligence, strategic thinking and customer service – that is – the ability to plan and create with technologies, and work well with people.
This week, The Alliance of Girls Schools Australasia issued their own research brief, “The Fourth Industrial Revolution: Schools of the future” and it is essential reading for all parents of school-aged students. The brief outlines information from the World Economic Forum that schools which are active in developing students with a balance of technological, STEM and social-emotional skills and characteristics are forward thinking schools of the future.
At LHC, this begins in our Middle School with our Global STARS House Project which focuses on building student skills in Digital Technologies through innovation, creativity, problem-solving and collaborative based learning while researching topics and proposing solutions to Global issues. Our Middle School curriculum also provides logical connections between subjects for real-world learning. We also have our College-wide Academic Mentoring lessons encouraging students to set high goals and personalise their own study plans and pathways. Our Leadership Development Programs focus on personal development as well as service Learning, both in and out of the classroom, and encourage students to develop leadership skills, empathy, social awareness and a global outlook to care for others.
Take the time to read this informative research brief and contact the College if you have questions about how we are preparing your daughter for her exciting future.
